Abstract

Education plays a fundamental role in young people’s lives. Though approaches to education differ, there are some common goals which is to give young people the knowledge and skills needed to survive in a global society and to help them grow and develop into. This paper looks at how the educational theatre management in Nigeria institution is reflected in the professional sector in a bid to understand if there is any relationship between both sectors. The Department of Creative Arts at the University of Lagos is the paradigm of this paper to investigate their teaching method and its affiliation with the profession of the course in order to prevent the students from struggling to adapt when they leave school. It was observed that some methods used in teaching the student which had be a norm is not replicated in the profession of the course, I agree that the educational systems provides the theory in which the practice of the course is based which implies educational theatre is the catalyst for theatre practise in Nigeria and for that reason bridge the gap between the educational and professional theatre but, it is imperative not to just teach in isolation disregarding how things are done outside the University. The society is changing and this has affected the practice of this profession, so this paper proposes that the educational system look at this new development and inculcate it in the curriculum of the school and this will help the student be more engaged and take theatre more seriously as well as appreciate it.
