Abstract
The article is about the educational purpose of FL teaching in an increas-ingly internationalised world. The last research in methods of teaching and pedagogy (G. Koester, H. Brown, M. Canale, M. Swain, M. Fleming, K. Risage, M. Byram and others) have witnessed a fundamental rethinking of the aims of FLT, entailing a shift in emphasis from linguistic competence over communicative competence to intercultural competence. Teaching with intercultural perspective encourages appreciation and understanding of other cultures as well as one’s own.
