Abstract
This study successfully prepared an eco-friendly filler (KFA) by functionalizing the surface of fly ash (FA) using a silane coupling agent (KH-550). The filler significantly improved the defects of waterborne epoxy (WEP) coatings, enhanced their anti-corrosion performance, and imparted flame-retardant properties. In electrochemical tests, the composite coating demonstrated excellent anti-corrosion performance, with a corrosion rate (CR) decreased by three orders of magnitude compared to pure WEP coatings. Results from cone calorimetry tests manifested that the coating exhibited good thermal performance, with a peak heat release rate (PHRR) 37.9% lower than that of pure WEP coatings. This study introduces an innovative approach to preparing dual-functional WEP coatings, paving the way for new applications of FA resources.
