Proposals for the Revitalisation of the Historic Quarter of Darb-e-Ghasr, Isfahan, Iran

Abstract

Isfahan is one of the ancient cities in Iran which is famous for its magnificent buildings, especially the Safavid era. Darb-e-Ghasr is one of the historic neighbourhoods in Isfahan which consists of so many gorgeous houses and precious historic buildings. Although this historic quarter is rich in valuable cultural heritage, it suffers from ignorance and abandonment of historic buildings. This article aims to propose proper methods for the revitalisation of the Darb-e-Ghasr neighbourhood in Isfahan, Iran. After comprehensive research about the needs of the neighbourhood, the proposals for the improvement and revitalisation of this historic context are suggested exhaustively. This historic research is based on qualitative and quantitative methods and personal observations of the author. The results of this article can be useful for the preservationists and conservationists in the field of cultural heritage and also the architects and urban planners for designing in the historical context of ancient cities.
