Abstract

In this study, continuous and uniform Co-based amorphous microwires were successfully synthesized by the modified TU method and followed by Joule heating process at a DC current range of 5 ~ 30 mA. The microstructure, magnetic properties, and giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effect of the microwires were thoroughly investigated. The microstructure analysis showed that the microwire changed from amorphous to nanocrystalline after Joule heating, with a size of about 50 ~ 80 nm. Concurrently, the saturation magnetization experienced a notable increase, from 63 emu/g to 73 emu/g.  The GMI sensing system, constructed based on the direct measurement method, demonstrated that a maximum GMI ratio was reached 340% when the excitation voltage is set to 0.2 V at 10 MHz under the 10 mA annealing condition. The maximum magnetic field response sensitivity of up to 235%/Oe, signifying its potential as a high-performance GMI sensor.
