Abstract
Digitizing library resources unlocks knowledge and breaks down physical barriers, allowing anyone to access the collections anytime, anywhere at the same time for the current and future library users. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the difficulties and strategies of digitizing library resources of academic libraries in Davao region. Twelve (12) academic librarians were conveniently chosen to participate in the study through Key Informant Interview (KII) and data gathered were analyzed using Colaizzi's thematic analysis. Results revealed that the difficulties included technological and infrastructure barriers in digitization, skills and knowledge gaps in digitization, and preservation concerns. These challenges were addressed by employing strategy such as upgrades the technological infrastructure, training and professional development, and new digital preservation methods. The forms of support that they needed from the administrators to facilitate successful digitization projects were increase financial resource allocation, administrative support for policy development, and expanding collaboration for resource sharing of digitized collections. Based on the findings, it is recommended that academic librarians implement a well-defined strategy supported by strong administrative backing, to address and overcome obstacles in the digital realm.
