Abstract

The highway “Separate Subgrade” section presents complex environment, where simplistic signage fails to convey accurate information effectively. To enhance traffic facilities, a general approach, Traffic Control Device Selection Model-T (TCDSM-T), is proposed. This method diverges from traditional evaluation techniques by examining the impact of facility optimization on drivers through a hierarchical overlay of information, ultimately leading to an optimal design. Results indicates that for the separated subgrade, based on existing facilities, integrating 800-meter and 200-meter warning sign information significantly improves guidance. This integration facilitates early awareness among drivers, promotes clearer route choices, and enhances operational stability. Furthermore, the optimized design introduces navigation corresponding to signs. Consequently, drivers demonstrate a 17.53% increase in speed control, a 28.39% improvement in stability, a 19.5% reduction in psychological tension, and a 10.07% enhancement in safety utility. Additionally, the TCDSM-T approach provides a valuable framework for addressing information delivery under complex road conditions, thus supporting standardized design and optimizing utilization of signage system.
