Abstract

Economies of scale are a major force towards concentration of production and the emergence of market power. In a geopolitical context large firms not only exert market power but can be instrumentalized for political purposes by autocratic leaders. This note argues that under such conditions decentralized trade is not likely to generate efficient outcomes.
