Abstract

Lemon laws are critical legal instruments that provide remedies to consumers who unknowingly purchase defective products, particularly automobiles. While such laws have become integral to consumer protection regimes in countries like the United States, Canada, and China, other countries such as Nigeria lack specific statutory provisions. This paper offers a comparative overview of lemon law frameworks worldwide and explores the legal and practical gaps in Nigeria's consumer protection system. The study concludes with actionable recommendations for incorporating lemon law provisions into Nigerian legislation, emphasizing the need for consumer confidence in a growing market economy.
