Abstract

Policymakers drafting labor laws usually are guided more by political considerations than by principles of law and economics. The labor laws of the three countries studied in this article-Thailand, Viet Nam, and the United States-are no different. This articles that employers, workers, and national institutions would be better served if law and economics principles were applied at the front end of new labor legislation, rather than being used only at the back end to measure the effects of new legislation.
