Abstract

The study examines the peacebuilding and preventive diplomacy initiatives of the Oromia National Regional State with neighboring regional states. It adopts a qualitative research approach, analyzing documents, conducting interviews, and studying case projects. The findings indicate that the Oromia National Regional State has implemented various strategies, including joint commissions, peace and security councils, and economic integration organizations, to foster cooperation and build trust. Positive outcomes include improved cross-border trade, increased economic interdependence, and reduced tensions. However, challenges such as political differences, historical grievances, and resource competition persist. Overall, the study concludes that the Oromia National Regional State's efforts have contributed to cooperation and conflict mitigation. Recommendations include strengthening regional institutions, promoting economic interdependence, and supporting grassroots peacebuilding. Consistent monitoring, evaluation, and learning from past experiences are essential for long-term success.
