Abstract

This short essay is a contribution to a series of commissioned 'Reflections on Writing' that treat the activity of writing as a fundamental but often insufficiently examined aspect of legal research and scholarship. The essay reflects on various types of contemporary writing in legal contexts, their motivations, aims, and methods, and on the author's personal approach to writing in some of these different contexts.

Keywords: Legal scholarship, writing aims, writing practice, George Orwell
