Abstract
In the Fifth Industrial Revolution, Multinational Enterprises faced increased uncertainties and disruptions in governing Global Value Chains (GVCs), prompting them to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a strategic decision. However, the current understanding of the relationship between AI technologies and GVCs management in International Business is limited, as the phenomenon is complex and multidisciplinary. In response, this paper aims to explore the influence of AI on GVCs across multiple levels by employing a framework-based systematic literature review from a multidisciplinary perspective. Based on this, we explain the mechanisms by which AI influences GVCs from the perspectives of countries, industries, and firms, thereby filling the gap in understanding the interplay between AI and GVCs in the field of International Business. Furthermore, we outline future research themes on AI adoption in GVCs.
