Abstract

This chapter describes the disagreement concerning the trade and labor link and the impact of that disagreement on international governance. Part I provides an historical overview of the trade and labor debate within the WTO framework. Part II then briefly describes the WTO’s structure, dispute settlement mechanisms, and the evolution of matters considered trade relevant. Part III concludes by highlighting some of the residual tensions implicated in the debate and its potential impact on trade.
