Primary Oral Syphilis Presenting as a Nodular Lower Lip Lesion
6 Pages Posted: 15 May 2025
Abstract
We report the case of a 19-year-old woman who presented with a painless, nodular lesion of the lower lip. A Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test returned positive at a titer of 1:32, confirming the diagnosis of syphilis. Histopathological examination showed endothelial swelling with pericapillary plasmacytic infiltration (Figure 3). The patient was treated successfully with a single intramuscular dose of benzathine penicillin G. Recognition of oral presentations of syphilis is crucial for prompt diagnosis and management preventing further complications and transmission.
