Abstract

Chile's historical reliance on commodity exports (copper, salmon, wine, agriculture) has underpinned growth but left the country vulnerable to market volatility and low value addition. To achieve more inclusive, resilient development, Chile must transition toward a knowledge-based economy. This paper outlines a strategic framework to guide that transformation. Key elements include increased investment in science and technology, education and workforce reforms, stronger institutions, and innovation-driven policies. Drawing on examples such as Chile's Ministry of Science and the Start-Up Chile and Ingeniería 2030 programs, the framework proposes practical measures to promote longterm prosperity, enhance competitiveness, and diversify the economy.
