Abstract
Highlights• Odd-looking joint systems in lava flows are found in several sites in Colombia, and Costa Rica.• Intermediate to felsic lava outcrops show a spindle-shaped mass surrounded by arching joints.• Cross-sections of joints show amazing concentric pattern.• A newly described lava structure is presented.
