Abstract

In this article, we argue for the coupling between artificial intelligence (AI) and operations management (OM) that needs only to be deepened to further the theoretical and empirical understanding of practical operations systems. When employed properly, the broad and deep pool of OM tools can unleash the great potential of AI to improve system efficiency. We discuss coupling ideas in prediction, modeling, and problemsolving, ultimately defining our vision of "AI as Flesh and OM as Bone" for the marriage of operations structure and adaptive intelligence.
