Abstract
An essay review of A Review of Inside Alabama: A Personal History of My State by Harvey H. Jackson III. This review develops themes illustrating historical failures of politicians, lawyers, and religious leaders and relates those themes to injustices that plague Alabama today. The conclusion discusses how the lessons of history help explain why Governor Bob Riley's 2003 tax reform plan failed. It further offers how those lessons suggest what should be done to implement successful reform in the future.
