The Academic's Approach to Securities Research: Is it Relevant to the Analyst?
Posted: 18 Apr 1998
Abstract
Academic research focuses on the average relation between selected accounting information and stock prices across a large number of firms. Equity analyst research, by contrast, uses accounting and other information for individual firms to make stock recommendations. The author addresses the discontinuity between these two communities by providing an overview of academic research, with emphasis on methodological issues that might impede analysts' understanding of this research, and by summarizing the principal findings to date.
