Total State and Local Business Taxes: Nationally 1980-2005, by State 2002-2005

Posted: 30 Apr 2006

Abstract

In a study for the Council On State Taxation, the authors analyze total state and local business taxes. State and Local business taxes in fiscal 2005 totaled $497 billion, an increase of 25 percent from the level in fiscal 2002. That increase accounted for nearly half of the increase in total state and local business taxes over the same period. The authors say state and local governments should consider the effect of taxes on their business climate.
