Abstract

Terry and Mary Day, natives of western Canada who have been living in the United States for many years, must decide whether to move to Montreal, Quebec, where Terry would become chief of Anesthesiology at Montreal Children's Hospital and Mary would enroll in a political-science master's program at McGill University. In the A case, the couple weigh the pros and cons of the potential move, considering the implications for Terry's career, Mary's continuing education, and their sons' ability to learn French. Their decision coincides with a referendum in Quebec that threatens to separate the province from Canada. See also the B case (UVA-BC-0140).
