Abstract

The present work seeks to analyze the economic implications of the standard setting decisions in the context of the Mobile Telecommunications Industry, to determine their effect on market forces and the extent to which standardization of technology is desirable, and how should it be accomplished.

Furthermore, the present topic yields the necessity of analyzing collateral issues, such as the nature and extent of the competition existing in the market, as well as the structural composition of the industry. This subsequently implies analyzing how consumer demand influences the pricing decision of the competitors present in the market.
