Lawyers, Corporations and International Human Rights Law

Abstract

This short article concerns the role that is and might be played by lawyers and law firms who work with corporations in respect of the protection and promotion of human rights laws. Not just, that is, in respect of their provision of advice as to how to react to the threat or acuality of litigation, but also procatively, in their advising corporations how to practice sustainable corporate social responsibility and thereby avoid such conflict in the first place. The article argues that there is an untapped potential for law firms to establish a foothold, or competetive advantage, in this area of growing corporate concern.
