Abstract

The paper introduces a Balanced-University-Decision-Card [BUDC], a tool which aims at improving decision making on large projects at European universities. To control the decision making processes at the University the Balanced Scorecard [BSC] approach will be adopted: First to lead through the discussions and second to be able to communicate the result streamlining why and how the decision has been taken. Starting point of the BUDC-considerations are several issues evolving in higher education and research organizations. Since the 'BSC-Technique' is going to be incorporated into the BUDC, the methodology of the classical instrument will be described before the new tool is presented. In order to highlight the differences between both instruments the adjustments through the BUDC will be shown. Special focus will be put on possible perspectives, measures and cause-and effect chains by designing an example of a BUDC.
