Abstract

The present change in policies towards opening up of Special Economics Zones (SEZs) has aggravated the already existing problem of displacement and consequent Resettlement and Rehabilitation. The problem becomes acute when it is not supported by the relevant institutional support in the form of laws and policies. Therefore the present paper while describing the national scenario on R&R, raises the issues related to displacement and inadequate Resettlement and Rehabilitation in India. It argues for the need for providing institutional mechanisms to address these issues in providing social justice to the disadvantaged and the displaced people.
