Abstract

This paper assesses the scope and the specific contribution of laboratory experiments for antitrust law and policy. We review experiments that have addressed specific antitrust issues, problems and institutions. The paper covers experimental papers in basically all areas of competition policy making. Price conspiracies and parallel conduct; predatory pricing, price discrimination and vertical restraints; and merger policy. We also review two experiments designed to closely mimic actual antitrust cases.
