Abstract

The Presidential Elections Act 1991 was passed, as a consequence of the passing of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (Amendment) Act 1991, which created, inter alia, the new institution of a directly elected President for Singapore. That constitutional amendment provides that: The President shall be elected by the citizens of Singapore in accordance with any law made by the Legislature.
