Abstract

Considers the role that competition law can play in the improvement of consumer welfare. Questions how important consumers are to competition law and the provisions for claiming compensation at national and European level. Analyses how competition law is applied and how this can be done with a consideration of consumer welfare. Notes the mechanisms available to consumers to protect their interests and discusses the level of involvement of European consumer organisations in competition law cases. Summarises key issues and the author's views on the consideration and representation of the consumer interest.
