Abstract

Aman Singh, through his organization Krishi Avam Paristhitki Vikas Sansthan (KRAPAVIS), has been involved in reviving Orans. Orans are the common preserved section of forests protected in the name of some god or goddess by the villages. This concept historically evolved as a social mechanism to protect the livelihoods of the economically vulnerable sections of pastoralists i.e. livestock-dependent rural communities by recognizing and securing their right to natural resources for subsistence and livelihood purposes. This case study discusses the legal issues and action taken surrounding this revival.

Keywords: social entrepreneurship, ashoka, property rights, common pool resources, land reform
