Abstract

This chapter is based on a paper delivered at the Oxford-Norton Rose Law Colloquium in September 2007. It attempts a comparative analysis of some aspects of contractual interpretation which other contributions to the colloquium examined from the perspective of English law: the basic principles of construction, the admissibility of extrinsic evidence, rectification, and the interpretation contra proferentem. The English approach is contrasted with French and German law.
