Abstract

Contrary to popular opinion, only one Indian firm - about a dozen radiologists in total - now reads medical images generated in the United States. The Indian teleradiology industry is having somewhat greater success in the United Kingdom and Singapore but even here, success is slow. In this paper, I discuss the Indian teleradiology industry and describe the substantive and regulatory obstacles that make the offshoring of teleradiology (and other professional services) more complicated than offshoring call center work or manufactured products.

Keywords: teleradiology, offshoring
