Abstract

The Ninth Schedule of the Indian Constitution was enacted and its laws were kept outside the judicial purview for a particular purpose i.e. land reforms. If everything would have went right, this purpose would have been more or less fulfilled. But, owing to the selfish and egocentric interests of the politicians, the Ninth Schedule was used more as an 'umbrella' to shield the laws in which they did not want the judiciary to interfere. However, thanks to the judgment in I.R.Coelho case, the Ninth Schedule has finally met its fate. This research paper tries to cover the journey of the Ninth Schedule till now and the impact the I.R.Coelho judgment will have on it.
