Abstract

This article describes the conceptual framework that was developed by Ashoka's Full Economic Citizenship initiative for Changemakers' global online competition on How to Improve Health for All. The Changemakers Innovation Awards series is based on a unique open source format where participants compete by entering the best solutions to pressing social issues while collaborating to advance current initiatives. This first health competition took place in the spring of 2006 and attracted 139 participants from 40 countries whose applications can be viewed on changemakers.net.

This framework is meant to serve as a starting point for reflecting on the key challenges to achieving "Health for All" and developing effective responses. It describes successful innovations used by social entrepreneurs, businesses, and public entities around the world to overcome core barriers related to the availability of health for all. It then highlights the key principles emerging from these innovations.
