Abstract

In the current globalized scenario the future of a country depends on its human resources. Women, being half of the population of our country, have tremendous potential to lead the socio-economic development of the nation. The socio-economic empowerment of women not only ensures the development of her family but also it contributes to the development of the nation. An entrepreneur not only becomes self dependent financially but also creates job opportunities and adds value to the nation. For centuries the potential and entrepreneurial skills of Indian women has been suppressed due to various cultural, social and political reasons. Although a large number of women entrepreneurs come up in the last two decades but they are facing many difficulties due to the social, cultural and economic hurdles. On the other hand, aspiring women entrepreneurs face lack of social, economic and motivational support from the family and society. Present paper emphasizes on a variety of socio-economic and motivational factors that affect women entrepreneurs positively and negatively in current scenario. For the purpose of finding out the current picture and suggestive measures for women entrepreneurs, a self constructed questionnaire has been used. The questionnaire was administered to 200 women (Actual and potential) entrepreneurs in Delhi and NCR region. For the analysis of responses collected from the respondents, weighted average method has been used and conclusions are drawn. The paper concludes the most affecting problems and the probable solutions to provide a conducive environment to nurture women entrepreneurship.
