Abstract
Kyai (leader) leadership typically uses charismatic and democratic leadership styles. However, problems of conflict management and inadequate resources are common practice. The novelty of this research is a model of kyai influencing the independence of santri in the context of managerial, religious, and entrepreneurial, which is a new insight into the dynamics of leadership, which is rarely discussed in the global managerial leadership literature. Thus the purpose of this study is to in-depth exploration and analysis how Kyai, as a leader, can shape santri’s (student) entrepreneurial spirit and sense of independence via well-managed Islamic boarding school cooperatives. The data was examined via reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions based on qualitative approach with extensive interview data collecting. Afterward, categorization and content analysis were carried out and validated using source and time triangulation, transferability, and confirmability. The findings of this research revealed that efforts to form entrepreneurs and the independence of students are not only based on the influence of leaders with their managerial style but are also on the basis of the values of deliberation and prayer. This research contributes to the fact that spiritual values can add desired results to planning. The idea that Islamic boarding schools may foster a spirit of independence and entrepreneurship by emphasizing prayer and the development of moral principles has new implications.
