Abstract
The present paper is an attempt to examine the product practices of scientific instruments industry in Ambala. For this purpose, by using snow ball sampling technique, 150 scientific instruments making units consisting 80 micro, 50 small and 20 medium are selected. The statistical analysis reveals that there exist wide differences among producers of scientific instruments with regard to product practices including product development, test marketing, branding, packaging, labeling, after sale Services, and quality assurance. Moreover, micro units are lagging behind from small as well as medium enterprises in adopting product practices according to modem needs. Meanwhile, medium enterprises are found to implement best product practices in comparison of micro and small units may be due to their strong economic position. Further, the findings imply that in the age of consumer sovereignty, all units of scientific instruments industry need to maintain standardized product practices with social responsibility for which Government must support them by providing modem technology, and arranging training programs for technical guidance.
