Abstract
An approach to design of a large-scale distributed system intended for factory automation is described for a case study of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Management systems (CIMMs). Some aspects of the two basic approaches to design of CIMMs (by-organisation and by-thinking) are compared. The paper presents some experience in design and development large-scale systems and the current state of art for the domain., being a good example of complex computer systems.
