Honoring the Life, Scholarship and Public Service of Joel Barkan

Abstract

This Roundtable honors the life, scholarship and public service of Joel Barkan, professor of political science emeritus at the University of Iowa and senior associate in the Africa program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The participants are colleagues and friends who collaborated closely with Joel in the areas of his professional interest and scholarship. These include Kenyan and Ugandan politics, Kenyan elections, Kenyan and Tanzanian African Socialism, strengthening of African legislatures and external assistance for African democratization.
