Abstract

Disclaimer: This paper is intended to be humorous and should therefore be taken seriously.

Is economic theory relevant for everyday life? While some would disagree, we present evidence to support this claim. Using an example from an everyday-life event, we show that economic theory is a valuable tool for decision making. However, different fields in economics provide different, and often conflicting, insights regarding optimal decision making. We discuss several branches of economics, including standard economic theory, behavioral economics, environmental economics, etc. Contrary to previous studies, we suggest that economic theory is too useful.
