Abstract

The banking industry has grown tremendously in volume and complexity in the last few decades. A whole lot of improvements have been witnessed in the area relating to financial viability, profitability and competitiveness. Unfortunately, there are concerns or issues that banks have not been able to reach and bring vast segment of the population, especially the underprivileged sections of the society, within the roof of basic financial services. It has to be understood that every household is bankable. Today about 100 million rural households are away from the banking system. This conceptual paper is prepared with an aim of developing suitable research questions in the area of rural banking and its challenges & issues. The principle used in organizing this paper is thematic in nature. Similar issues close to the area of interest of the researcher is referred and after a thorough scanning of the various literature, the data has been organized and tabulated for easy reading. This conceptual research paper is an attempt made by the researchers to distinguish what has been done in the area of rural banking, technology and quality management in banking services from what needs to be done thereby gain a new perspective in those areas.
