Abstract

In this chapter, we explore the concept of "prominence" in living systems-an organism's ability to manage the attention it receives from observers to enhance its survivability. We examine how organisms strategically increase or decrease their prominence to manage interactions with predators, prey, mates, competitors, and symbiotic partners. Through analyzing various biological mechanisms such as camouflage, deimatic behavior, protean behavior, and distraction displays, we extend these principles to the organizational domain.
