Abstract

Being deeply embedded in human beings, emotions have a significant role inlearning by influencing motivation, cognitive function, and adaptability. Thisstudy investigates the critical role of emotions in learning, particularly in thecontext of enhancing motivation and cognitive functions in young girls pursuingcoding and performing music. To advance gender equality in STEM, aSTEAM approach is adopted, integrating performing arts—known for elicitinga broad spectrum of emotions—as a strategic tool to enhance motivation. This paper aims to quantify and present participants’ emotional experiencesduring the learning process, assessing the impact on their well-beingand coding motivation. Various methodologies for measuring these emotionswere explored, arguing that incorporating performing arts in STEAM evokesstrong emotional responses and significantly boosts motivation. Despite itspromise, accurately measuring and visualising emotions remains a challenge, necessitating further research in this area.
