Abstract

By using circular aperture diaphragm (CAD) for intracavity mode discrimination, an efficient LG01-mode vortex beam was generated from multi-mode He-Ne laser resonator. By tuning the diameters of CAD without the tilt control of cavity mirrors, up to 3.7- and 7.2-mW powers of LG01 modes were obtained in single- and dual-tube He-Ne laser resonators, with nearly 66.1-% and 60.0% conversion efficiency from multi-mode output to LG01-mode output, respectively. The effect of the CAD’s diameter, as well as its position in the cavity, on the transverse mode’s pattern and power was analyzed. Our study proposed a simple and versatile method for generating vortex beam from various types of laser resonator.
