Abstract

The More Than Just a Game (MTJG) 2023 conference brought together legal scholars, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore the evolving intersection of games, interactive entertainment, and law. Held in London, the event focused on pressing issues surrounding the Metaverse, intellectual property (IP), generative AI, and user rights. Key themes included the challenges of regulating decentralized virtual environments, adapting IP frameworks to digital assets and NFTs, and developing ethical governance models for immersive technologies. Panels also addressed the role of games in shaping AI policy, brand protection in virtual spaces, and the emergence of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. With contributions from leading figures across academia and industry, MTJG 2023 reaffirmed its role as a central platform for high-impact dialogue and interdisciplinary research. The discussions underscored the urgent need for inclusive, flexible legal frameworks to address the opportunities and risks of an increasingly immersive and digitally mediated world.
