Abstract
At the end of 2020, Professor Nicolas Petit published Big Tech and the Digital Economy (Oxford University Press), a landmark contribution to the understanding of competition in digital markets. In this work, Petit introduces the concept of “moligopoly” to describe the competitive dynamics between large technology firms. Rejecting the monopoly label commonly attributed to "Big Tech", he argues that these firms operate in a highly competitive environment characterized by fast-paced innovation and strategic interdependence. This shift in analytical framework has major implications for competition policy and enforcement in the digital era.
