Abstract

This study utilized the world’s largest Chinese database, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and selected 4984 studies on PBs from Web of Science and Scopus (W&S) and CNKI. We systematically analyzed the research status, developmental trajectory, and potential trends of PBs. The results show that: (1) the number of PB studies in CNKI has exhibited steady year-on-year growth, entering a stable phase of development; (2) W&S and CNKI each have their own independent and complementary focus; (3) These two datasets are more similar in terms of the nature of research institutions, but inter-institutional cooperation in W&S is closer than that in CNKI. The clustering effect among research institutions in China is not good; (4) The top five topics of W&S research are performance, design, construction, seismic performance, and influencing factors. Emergent issues such as safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainable development are critical.
