Abstract

Our paper is a starting point for further discussions on the value of political ties in China, their evolutionary trajectory along the process of globalization, and their influence in explaining variability in differentiated performance metrics. Our arguments shed new light on the ongoing debate on the varieties of capitalism. We hope that our work will provide an impetus for additions and extensions that view convergence and divergence as two interrelated and mutually dependent constructs. Ignoring one or the other might generate an incomplete view of the effects of globalization.

Keywords: Political strategies, Government relations, Varieties of Capitalism, China
