Abstract
This article explores the process followed in order to write working papers as theses in economics, with the objective of providing unified, concise and practical reference for students that are about to undertake such a task. The article gives a general framework for writing academic documents, and explores each of the components of conventional working papers, in order to highlight their specific role and characteristics. It is argued, as others have done in the past, that the process of writing the document is more important than the actual content of the thesis itself, since each of the steps provides useful tools that can be applied, and improved, in the practice of professional work in economics.
